Piracy

zacharye writes with an excerpt from BGR: “The new ‘six strikes’ anti-piracy policy soon to be implemented by a number of major Internet service providers in the United States will reportedly stumble out of the gate. The policy, which is set to be adopted by Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon, Time Warner Cable, and other ISPs, will see action taken against users caught downloading pirated files in six steps, ultimately resulting in bandwidth throttling or even service suspensions. The system responsible for managing the new policy may not be ready on schedule, however, and the targeted launch date of July 12th may slip back as a result…”

zacharye writes, quoting BGR: “The launch of Sprint’s flagship EVO 4G LTE has been delayed indefinitely and supply of AT&T’s flagship HTC One X will be constrained as a result of ongoing patent disputes between HTC and Apple. HTC confirmed in a statement emailed to BGR on Tuesday evening that shipments of its new EVO 4G LTE and One X smartphones have been held up by United States Customs as part of an International Trade Commission investigation. zacharye writes with an except from an article over at BGR about Apple’s quarterly results: ” Disappointing’ though it may have been to some, the iPhone 4S propelled what is now confirmed to have been the most profitable quarter any technology company has ever recorded. Apple on Wednesday reported record earnings for the December quarter, revealing a profit of $13.06 billion on revenue that surpassed $46 billion. Among technology companies, Apple’s fiscal first quarter represents the most profitable quarter ever recorded. Only one U.S. company has ever posted a more profitable quarter — Exxon managed a profit of $14.8 billion in the third quarter of 2008 — and the driving force behind Apple’s record-setting performance was quite clearly the iPhone.”

iOS 5

Yesterday, a report claimed that Apple will be releasing iOS 5 to their iPhone manufacturing partners during the timeframe of September 23rd through 30th.

BGR now reports that they’ve received information from a trusted source about the specific time frame for iPhone 5 launch.

According to BGR’s source, Apple will seed iOS 5 beta 8 to developers this Friday, September 16th and will release iOS 5 golden master version on or around September 23rd.

After beta 8, Apple will introduce a Gold Master build on or around September 23rd as has been rumored. We believe that build is what will be loaded onto the already-assembled iPhone 5 hardware currently waiting for final software in China.

According to BGR, Apple’s iPhone carrier partners are expected to give approval for iOS 5 by October 5th, which means that Apple is likely to launch iPhone 5 in the first-half of October as has been rumored.

AT&T

zacharye writes with a news post in BGR. From the article: “Sprint … announced that it has filed a lawsuit with a federal court in the U.S. District of Columbia in an effort to block AT&T’s planned $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom. The suit is related to the Department of Justice’s lawsuit, which was filed on August 31st. ‘Sprint opposes AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile,’ Sprint’s vice president of litigation Suzan Haller said. ‘With today’s legal action, we are continuing that advocacy on behalf of consumers and competition, and expect to contribute our expertise and resources in proving that the proposed transaction is illegal.’”

Leaked Internal Memo Reveals Best Buy Is Expecting Sprint iPhone 5 In The 1st Week Of October

iPhone 5

We’ve heard rumors that Apple’s iPhone 5 may be also coming to Sprint and T-Mobile USA – the third and the fourth largest carrier in the US respectively.

To add more fuel to the fire, BGR has just reported that they’ve got hold of an internal memo, which reveals that even Best Buy is anticipating iPhone 5 on Sprint’s network.

We must highlight that it is very much possible that BestBuy is expecting it based on the same rumors that we’ve heard.

BGR reports:

Thanks to a leaked document from a Best Buy source, we have discovered that Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores are anticipating taking preorders for the iPhone 5 starting in the first week of October. What’s a tad bit more interesting, however, is the mention (and further anticipation) that Sprint will be carrying the iPhone 5 at launch.

BGR later updated the post to say:

Our source clarified that it’s actually possible presales will be starting this week with the phone arriving in the first week of October, not preorders starting in October.

Best Buy also warns that the product launch or dates are subject to change.

Last week, Sprint had sent an internal memo to its employees telling them: “Do not Speculate about Sprint Getting the iPhone.”, which is being perceived by some as a positive indication that Spring is finally getting the iPhone.

Application usage logs have revealed that Apple is testing a dual-mode iPhone 5 running iOS 5, so it remains to be seen if iPhone 5 will also support Sprint’s CDMA network.

Will you switch to Sprint from AT&T or Verizon if it really ends up getting iPhone 5?

iOS 4.3.3

Last week, Apple responded to questions raised about the iPhone and iPad 3G location tracking issue reported by Security researchers.

Apple also announced that it plans to release a minor iOS software update in the next few weeks to address a bug in the way it manages the crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspot and cell tower database that is cached on the iPhone.

BGR has just confirmed that according to their source, Apple will be fixing the iPhone location tracking bug in iOS 4.3.3 just as we had expected within the next two weeks.

BGR reports:

We’ve been sent the OS and while we haven’t loaded it on our iPhone just yet, here is what we have been told it will address:

iOS 4.3.1 Might Also Improve iPhone’s Battery Life

iOS 4.3.1

Couple of days back, Boy Genius Report reported that Apple is planning to release iOS 4.3.1 within one to two weeks to fix number of bugs and also fix the iPad 2 jailbreak vulnerability.

BGR now reports that iOS 4.3.1 might also improve the battery life of the iOS device. It looks like some users have noticed significant decrease in battery life after upgrading to iOS 4.3.

BGR reports:

One of our Apple connects just installed the unreleased and unseen iOS 4.3.1 build on one of our iPhones, and we’ve been playing around with it for a couple days. We reported the changes from iOS 4.3 a few days back, and it really does look as if iOS 4.3.1 will simply fix bugs, hence the version numbering. Battery life seems a tad bit better, though that’s not scientific at all. Our source says we should continue to expect iOS 4.3.1 in the next 1-2 weeks, just as we previously reported.

Apple released Apple TV software update 4.2.1 (which is essentially iOS 4.3.1) to fix issues with flickering, waking from sleep and audio output so it seems likely that Apple will release a software update for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch shortly.

Have you seen a significant decrease in battery life after upgrading to iOS 4.3? Please let us know in the comments section below.
