This Week in iPad for Business: Twitter Analysis, Zendesk and Box

Zendesk iPad appEarlier this week, thanks to the iPad, Apple overtook HP as the biggest vendor of mobile computers. Challenging HP, one of the largest vendors of both consumer and enterprise technology, is quite a feat. Expect this trend to continue. Recent surveys show increasing support for tablets in the enterprise, and more vendors are releasing iPad apps for business users. Here’s a look at some of this week’s data and new apps.

Yesterday, All Things Digital’s John Paczkowski took a look at the rate of adoption of iPads in the enterprise. He looked at Good Technology’s activation numbers, which as we’ve noted before shows rapid adoption of the iPad in the enterprise. According to Good, 29% of its new activation in December were for iPads. Paczkowski also cites a survey conduced by Morgan Stanley of 50 enterprise CIOs, which found that 29% of respondents currently support tablets in their enterprises. Within a year, 67% expect to support tablets.

24/7 Customer Launched Twitter Analytics Tool for iPad

Yesterday 24/7 Customer, a social media monitoring startup, launched a new iPad app as part of its Twitter analytics service called 24/7 tweetview. 24/7 Customer is focused on using predictive analytics to find and serve unhappy customers. The tweetview service monitors and analyzes tweets relating to a company and provides suggested actions for resolving customer issues.

The new iPad app for the tweetview service is called Wow!px. According to 24/7 Customer’s announcement “Wow!px predicts the most probable queries, resolves them with self-help, and provides immediate live chat assistance for questions not addressed by its prediction.”

Box Increases Security of its iPad App, Adds Presentation Capabilities

Today Box released a significant update to its iPad app designed to make it more useful for business users. The updates include:

  • Locking and Auto Logout: Option to apply a four-digit password code to protect Box content on iPad and iPhone, and set the app to logout automatically when closed.
  • SSO Login: Connect Box apps to PingFederate and Google Apps enterprise identities for a more seamless and secure user experience on the iPad and iPhone.
  • Video Out: Project Box content directly from the iPad via a TV, Projector or LCD Monitor.
  • Air Printing: Wirelessly print Box content to any Air Print enabled printer in a single click from the iPad app.

The video out feature will make Box more useful as a presentation tool, and the security option should make it more appealing as well.

Krishnan Subramanian at CloudAve takes a look at Box’s overall enterprise strategy. He concludes that while it’s too early to tell whether Box will take off in the enterprise, he’s impressed with the quality of the product.

Zendesk Releases iPad App

Earlier this week, Zendesk announced its first iPad-optmized app. In addition to being able to view current tickets, the iPad app lets users manage their entire ticket workflow. Users can make comments, add or modify tags and edit ticket fields. The beta version of the app was tested by customers such as Griffin and Tumblr.
