More Hints Of 3G iPod Touch?

3G iPod Touch

There has been a continuous stream of rumors suggesting that the next generation iPod Touch will support 3G.

iDownloadBlog reader spotted a page on Apple’s website where an image displaying an iPod Touch with 3G signal indicator. Whether this was an actual leak or an innocent mistake by a designer isn’t known, but Apple has rectified the mistake on it’s U.S. website.

At the time of writing this post, the Apple UK site and a few other Apple websites for India, Singapore etc. still display the old graphic showing the iPod Touch with the 3G indicator highlighted with a red circle in the image below:

Apple has fixed the issue on it’s U.S. website. The image now sports an iPod touch on Wi-Fi.

Mistakes in images and videos isn’t something new for Apple. When the iPad launched, its video indicated that the device is capable of playing Flash videos on The New York Times website, when in fact it wasn’t. Apple later fixed the issue and showed the familiar plugin missing image in the video.

Evidence of a 3G iPod Touch was also discovered in iOS 5 beta 4 that was seeded to developers last week. Is this too much of a coincidence? Or is Apple gearing up to launch a 3G iPod Touch? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Next iPod Touch May Get 3G And GPS?

iPod Touch

We’ve heard rumors that Apple’s next generation iPod touch will be available with 3G data connectivity.

Interestingly, folks at 9 to 5 Mac have discovered a screenshot in iOS 5 beta 4 that was seeded to developers few weeks back, which provides some evidence that the rumor could turn out to be true.

As you can see below, an iPod touch 4G running iOS 5 beta 4 gets a new toggle switch for cellular connectivity with a message which reads “When not connected to Wi-Fi use cellular network for transfer of documents and dataâ€.

Though the cellular data connectivity option is limited only to Documents and Data, which allows apps to store documents and data in the cloud, it has led to speculations that the fifth generation iPod touch will get 3G data option.

9 to 5 Mac has also discovered a toogle for GPS:

This could very well be a bug, but the possibility of iPod touch 5G with 3G data connectivity and GPS sounds quite interesting.

Apple is expected to launch iPod touch 5G along with iPhone 5 later this fall.

Rumor: Next Generation iPod Touch Will Available With 3G Data Connectivity This Fall

iPod Touch

Dutch website – AppleSpot claims that according to their sources, the next generation iPod Touch will be available with 3G data connectivity and will be launched along with iPhone 5 this fall.

According to AppleSpot, iPod Touch 5G will need a SIM card to work on GSM networks just like the iPhone and iPad Wi-Fi + 3G model to connect to the internet.

AppleSpot reports (translated by 9 to 5 Mac’s reader from Netherlands):

It will work just like the iPad; you get a 3G enabled simcard from your provider and put that in you iPod Touch. Apple’s choice of bringing 3G to the iPod Touch isn’t all that weird, if it’s true of course. Question remains how the providers will react to this, since the use of for example Skype will skyrocket.

9 to 5 Mac speculates that an iPod touch with 3G could be the rumored entry level iPhone for the price sensitive prepaid market:

Finally, this notion of a 3G iPod touch jives with our own Seth Weintraub’s school of thought calling for a cheap iPhone by adding “the GPS/3G baseband chips and some phone wiring and a solid 3 megapixel camera and you are 99 percent of the way to an iPhone liteâ€. So in a nutshell, the next iPod touch – and this is pure speculation based on a very questionable blog report – could get 3G data-only connectivity while Apple could add phone parts to the device and boom – there’s your inexpensive iPhone for the masses.

AppleSpot does not have a track record with Apple related rumors, so please take this with a pinch of salt.

But the possibility of iPod Touch 5G with 3G connectivity sounds quite interesting. What do you think? Please share your views in the comments section below.

Next Generation iPod Nano

Folks at 9to5Mac have discovered YouTube videos showing the 3 cm x 3 cm touch screen of the next generation iPod Nano and the digitizer of the next generation iPod Touch, which are expected to be unveiled at Apple’s special media event tomorrow.

We have already seen photos of the touch screen, third party cases and a mockup of the next generation iPod Nano.

As you can see in the video below, someone from iPod.dj first shows off a white and black iPhone 4 and then reveals the small touch screen of the next generation iPod Touch.

In the second video, he shows off the digitizer of the next generation iPod Touch. As you can seen, the digitizer has a hole at the top centre, which could be for the front facing camera to support FaceTime.

It will be interesting to see if the touch screen iPod nano will run a version of iOS.

We can’t wait for September to find out what Apple has in store for us tomorrow. How about you?
