What People Searched For On BitTorrent In 2010: Mostly Movies, Porn

December 27th, 2010 12:59 admin View Comments

TorrentFreak has released the BitTorrent Zeitgeist 2010, a list of the 100 most searched-for phrases and keywords in 2010 on one of the most popular public BitTorrent indexes, KickassTorrents.com.

It’s unclear just how many searches KT indexes, but according to the blog post it concerns a “few hundred million searches a year”, so the data presented should give a pretty accurate view of what people were looking for on BitTorrent this year.

Of course, because of its nature, it’s virtually impossible to track what people search on the hundreds of torrent sites out there, so this is just one data point and should be evaluated as such.

Movies are super popular of course, with “Inception“ topping the overall ranking. Also in the top 10: “Iron Man 2″, “Avatarâ€, “Despicable Me†and “Clash of the Titansâ€. According to TorrentFreak, “Avatar” was also the most-pirated movie in 2010.

And evidently also in the top 10 of the BitTorrent Zeitgeist 2010: searches for “xxx†and “porn“.

Perhaps surprisingly, the first software-related search keyword in the ranking is “Windows 7â€, in 20th place.

For the full list of the 100 most entered search phrases on KickassTorrents.com, head on over here.

James Cameron Tells Hollywood To Stop Making Trash 3D Movies

November 3rd, 2010 11:15 admin View Comments

Proponents of 3D movies often point to Avatar, saying, smugly, “Well, look how great that movie turned out!†Yeah, that was the only one, and it was directed by James Cameron. Your typical Hollywood dross isn’t, in fact, directed by Cameron, nor does it take very obvious cues from Sega’s Panzer Dragoon series. Cameron has hit out at lazy Hollywood studios that think they can make a quick buck by converting their 2D movies into 3D at the last minute—Clash of the Titans being the worst offender. If you want a good 3D movie, he said, it has to be shot in 3D from the word go. Otherwise, don’t even bother.

crimeandpunishment writes “This real-life clash of the titans could be much more interesting than the movie. Today Google fired the latest volley in its war of words with Apple over mobile advertising. In a blog posting, the head of Google’s mobile ad service, Admob, had harsh words for Apple’s new restrictions concerning the iPhone and iPad … calling them a threat to competition. There’s a lot of money at stake … the US mobile ad market, which is about $600 million, is expected to more than double by 2013.”

UgLyPuNk writes “This could be a good thing or a bad thing: EA has just confirmed that they’re making Mass Effect into a movie. The franchise has been acquired by Legendary Pictures, who are best known for their co-productions of The Dark Knight, Clash of the Titans, 300, Watchmen and, um, The Hangover, as part of their co-financing agreement with Warner Bros.”
