Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst at Concord Securities claims that production of iPhone 5 will start only in September this year.

According to Kuo, iPhone 5 will get the faster dual-core A5 chip that powers iPad 2 and a higher resolution 8-megapixel camera but won’t feature an all new-design and likely to look like iPhone 4.

AppleInsider reports:

Specifically, Kuo has heard that the iPhone 5 will include the faster A5 processor already found in the iPad 2, as well as a higher resolution 8 megapixel rear camera. He has also been told that Apple will switch to a Qualcomm baseband for both GSM and CDMA models, along with an improved antenna design.

Kuo has also been told that the new iPhone will go into trial production in August and mass production in September, allowing Apple to reach shipment volumes of between 28 million and 32 million units this year. That would align with previous reports that have indicated Apple plans to make its new iPhone available for sale later than usual this year, likely in Apple’s next fiscal year beginning in October.

Kuo has a good track record in predicting Apple product related news based on information obtained from Apple’s supply chain. He had correctly predicted the launch of the new Macbook Air.

According to Kuo, Apple will unveil iPhone 5 at the WorldWide Developer Conference 2011 that starts on June 6th, which we think is unlikely, if Apple will release the fifth generation iPhone only in October.

Apple has announced that it will unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS X at the WorldWide Developer Conference 2011. But since it did not mention anything about the next generation iPhone and the “pattern of activity in motion with the supply chainâ€, it is being widely speculated that Apple may not launch iPhone 5 this summer.

Kuo also reports that iPhone 5 will come pre-installed with a significantly revamped iOS 5, which will be fully or nearly fully supported on iPhone 4. So it looks like iOS 5 won’t be compatible with the third generation iPhone (iPhone 3GS) and iPod Touch.

Kuo also claims that iPhone 6 will feature an all new-design and is likely to be launched in the first half of 2012, even though iPhone 5 gets delayed to fall this year.
