Google Latitude

Google continues to rollout new features and improvements to its native iOS apps and iPhone web apps.

It has just released a new version of Google Latitude, Google Places for iPhone and has recently introduced a new “connection bar†for its Gmail web app.

Google Latitude gets the new check-in feature, while Google Places now comes in 30 languages.

Google Latitude:

Google had released the native app for Google Latitude at the end of last year. It allows you to see where your friends are, share your location with your friends and also to communicate with them by phone, text message, or email.

The new version of Google Latitude will now allow you to check in at specific places:

Now, you can also choose to check in at specific places, such as your favorite restaurant or a park, to add more context to your location. You’ll be able to not only let friends know that you’re just around the corner but also let them know the actual coffee shop that you’re at in case they want to join you. If Latitude is set to continuously update your location, you’ll also be automatically checked out when you leave. This way, friends aren’t left guessing if you’re still there or not before heading over to join you for a latte.

Google Places:

Google has also released a new version of Google Places, which allows users to search for places nearby and also personalizes the results based on places they’ve rated. The new version of Google Places now provides personalized recommendations in 30 languages.

Gmail:

Gmail iPhone web app gets a new connection bar, which we think will be very useful for users who prefer to use the web app instead of accessing emails via the Mail app.

Using Gmail in Safari on your iPhone gives you access to fast search, conversation view, stars, labels, and more. But it’s sometimes frustrating not knowing whether your email has been sent or whether your phone has a functioning internet connection at all. To address this, we recently introduced the “connection bar.†The connection bar appears at the bottom of the screen when needed to give you the info you want— and then gets out of the way.

You can download the latest version of Google Latitude using this iTunes link and Google Places using this iTunes link and checkout Gmail’s new connection bar by visiting Gmail.com on your iPhone’s Mobile Safari browser.
