iOS 4.2 Launch Delayed Due To Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues?
Over the past weekend, a German publication had claimed from sources that Apple could be launching iOS 4.2 on November 12. This was later confirmed by folks at MacStories who had also correctly predicted the launch date for Mac OS X 10.6.5.
However, if the latest reports from the same website are to be believed, Apple could be delaying the launch of iOS 4.2 by at least a week due to last minute issues with Wi-Fi connectivity.
According to the report, Apple is working on an issue that has been documented quite extensively on Apple discussion forums ever since the release of iOS 4.2 GM edition earlier this month. The bug apparently prevents iPad users from successfully connecting to a local Wi-Fi network. Users testing the GM edition of the new iOS have also claimed that the bug causes an established connection to break intermittently making it difficult to connect to the internet.
Apple is expected to resolve this issue today. This would mean developers will now be receiving a second GM build by the end of this week. The new GM build shall then be tested for more bugs before Apple could make a decision on launching the software for public download. MacStories believes this to take another week’s time.
If true, this could be the second major delay for the upcoming iOS version. It had been earlier reported that Apple was planning on releasing iOS 4.2 on October 26. This apparently got delayed following the discovery of a bug that prevented Japanese characters from displaying correctly. Now, with another possible week of delay, Apple engineers have their task cut out to ensure that the update happens at the earliest.
