Google Voice and Firefox on App Store

The past few weeks have been extremely eventful as far as the App Store is concerned. Apple's decision to ease its app review guidelines has brought back several apps that were on the banned list until now.

You may be aware that apps such as MePing that were left unapproved for more than six months were finally accepted into the App Store earlier this month.

Cupertino's decision has also brought back the limelight on Google Voice – the popular service from Google that was blocked from the App Store in July last year. According to reports, Apple may have finally approved the official Google Voice app to the App Store. The application is however not available for download as yet since it is apparently being revamped by Google to support the iPhone 4 and the multitasking capabilities of iOS 4.x

Google has however not confirmed the development so far. A company spokesperson told TechCrunch

“We currently offer Google Voice mobile apps for Blackberry and Android, and we offer an HTML5 web app for the iPhone. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

However, it is a matter of time as Apple has also approved third-party Google Voice apps like GV Mobile+ and GV Connect recently.

Meanwhile, Mozilla foundation too has stayed non-committal about their plans for the iPhone app platform. In a recently published blog post, Mozilla has stated that a full-fledged Firefox browser app for the iPhone may not be coming anytime soon. The company has noted that the team would continue to focus on the Firefox Home app for iPhone that helps Firefox users to integrate their browsing experience on the desktop and mobile platforms. Mozilla has said:

"We are working to bring as much of your Firefox experience as possible to Firefox Home. People have asked about adding more browser-like features to Firefox Home, but there are technical and logistical restrictions that make it difficult, if not impossible, to build the full Firefox browser for the iPhone. We are focused on building Firefox Home as a rich, cloud-based application and making it a valuable product that people will continue to love and use"

Would you have liked to see a full fledged Firefox browser on your iPhone? Are you excited see Google Voice back? Tell us in the comments.
