iOS 4

We had reported that Apple is "looking into"complaints from iPhone 3G users about performance issues with iOS 4.

Steve Jobs has replied to a frustrated iPhone 3G user, which appears to confirm that Apple will release a software update to fix the performance issue observed on an iPhone 3G after upgrading to iOS 4.

Some of our readers who own an iPhone 3G have also reported that iOS 4 had slowed down their iPhone, which has forced some of them to downgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 or try workarounds to make it faster.

Macrumors reports that Steve Jobs replied to an email from an iPhone 3G user who had expressed frustration over the performance of his iPhone 3G after upgrading to iOS 4, calling it a "dog slow".

I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

Steve Jobs who is famous for his one-line replies responded to the email:

Software update coming soon.

Though Steve Jobs hasn’t provided any details on when the software update will be released, it looks like Apple will fix the performance issue in iOS 4.1, which has been seeded to developers of iPhone Developer program and is expected to be released in few weeks.

We have also received feedback from our readers, which indicates that iOS 4.1 seems to also address the performance issue on iPhone 3G to some extent.

So finally some good news for iPhone 3G users who were frustrated by iOS 4 performance.

We’ll let you know as soon as iOS 4.1 is available so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.
