Copyright Office of the U.S. Library of Congress had introduced two critical exceptions to the DMCA, which makes it legal for users to jailbreak and unlock their iPhone in the US.

Cult of Mac have reported that Apple has issued an official response to the new federal policies on jailbreaking and unlocking iPhone.
