iPhone 4

As we had reported some lucky folks had already started receiving their iPhone 4.

Folks at iFixit weren’t that lucky, they apparently had to go all the way to Japan to get their hand on Apple’s new iPhone 4 to do what every geek would love to do i.e. to crack open Apple's new iPhone to see what's inside.

Here are some of the highlights from iFixit’s teardown of the iPhone 4:

  • iPhone 4 comes with the A4 processor instead of the Samsung S5PC100 ARM A8 600 MHz CPU used in iPhone 3GS

  • iPhone's A4 processor has 512 MB RAM. iFixit believe that the decision to increase RAM to 512MB might have been taken quite late as teardown of iPhone 4 prototype’s had indicated that it will only have 256MB RAM

  • iPhone 4 gets a 3.7V 1420 mAh Li-Polymer battery

  • iPhone 4 comes pre-installed with iOS 4 build 8A293, which is the same build as iOS 4 released yesterday

  • The screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic.
  • Apple has not etched the storage capacity of iPhone 4 on the outer back cover.
