Apple Starts Shipping iPhone 4 For Launch Day; Some Users Report Cancellation Of iPhone 4 Pre-Orders
We had heard reports earlier that some of users had observed that their iPhone 4 order status at the Apple's US Online store had changed to indicate that they were ready for shipment for the launch day.
We’re now hearing reports that some users have received shipment notifications and FedEx tracking numbers for their iPhone 4.
The shipment notifications have delivery date as June 23rd, which is a day before the official launch day. But according to Macrumors users should expect delivery of their iPhones on June 24th.
We wouldn't read too much into these delivery dates as Apple has been known to artificially prolong ship times in order to match the worldwide launch date. The iPhone 4 is officially to be available on June 24th, 2010.
We’re also hearing reports that some users have observed that their iPhone 4 pre-orders have been cancelled by Apple and AT&T for no apparent reason. Below are sample emails that users are receiving from Apple and AT&T informing them about the cancellations:
Your iPhone order has been cancelled.
Your credit card has not been charged.
If you believe you have received this email in error, please return to the AT&T store where you placed your order.
We were unable to complete the authorization process for your iPhone order. As a result, we had to cancel your iPhone order. To complete the purchase of your iPhone, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an AT&T company-owned retail store.
We apologize for this inconvenience.
Apple Online Store Team
In some cases users haven’t even received communication that their iPhone 4 pre-order has been cancelled.
I ordered one 32GB for my line and my wife got a 16GB on the 15th. Both from Apple. Both were successful with order acknowledgments and temporary holds on the card. Today the 16GB order shows cancelled. No email, no call, nothing, just a cancellation on the order status page.
This can be very frustrating if you’re eagerly waiting to get your hands on Apple’s new iPhone 4 on launch day and have gone through the trouble on pre-order it despite issues Apple and AT&T were facing.
If you’ve seen a change in the status of your iPhone 4 order or received shipment notifications then please let us know in the comments.
