CDMA iPhone To Be Manufactured By Pegatron?

Pegatron manufacturing cdma iphone

A new report published on the Taiwanese website DigiTimes claims that Apple has contracted Pegatron Technology, the manufacturing arm of Asustek, to manufacture a CDMA version of the next generation iPhone.

This is an interesting as we had reported yesterday that Verizon could be working with an ad agency for a new ad campaign for iPhone.

According to the DigiTimes report, the CDMA iPhone may not be restricted to Verizon alone and it is quite likely that Apple will also offer the handset on other CDMA carriers like Sprint.

This is not the first time we have heard about Pegatron working on a CDMA iPhone. In March this year, the Wall Street Journal had reported that Apple was working on two models of iPhone 4G and that the CDMA iPhone model shall be manufactured by Pegatron. WSJ had reported back then that the mass-production of the CDMA model would only begin in September of this year. The latest DigiTimes report however does not say when Pegatron intends to start production of the CDMA iPhone.

Please note that these are unconfirmed rumors at this point and need to be taken with a grain of salt. You may recall that Apple had once labeled CDMA as a "dead" technology.
