AT&T Changes Upgrade Eligibility Dates; Hints At Launch Of New iPhone
MobileCrunch is reporting that several iPhone users are noticing a jump in the upgrade eligibility dates on their AT&T account. The website reports that an AT&T subscriber had noticed his upgrade eligibility date advance from November 21 of this year to June 21.
The tipster also claims several of his colleagues to have noticed a similar change.
The note on the user's AT&T account states:
"As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price, along with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 06/21/2010"
MobileCrunch speculates that the change in dates may be attributed to the impending launch of iPhone HD next month.
However, MacRumors points out:
"The significance of this date is simply that it is 12 months (to the business day) following the launch day of the iPhone 3GS."
Apple has announced that the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held this year between June 7th and June 11th and it is widely speculated that Apple will unveils its next generation iPhone during the Keynote address of the event. We have also heard rumors that the fourth generation iPhone may go on sale as early as June 7.
Have you seen similar changes in the upgrade eligibility dates in your account? If you haven't, then we don't be too worried as last year AT&T modified the eligibility dates at the last minute to accommodate more customers.
