iPad international launch

Good news for all our international readers who have been waiting for long to get hold of an iPad. Apple has announced that the iPads shall go on sale in nine more countries starting May 28th. This includes Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.

Customers wishing to pre-order a unit may do so starting May 10.

As expected, the iPad's pricing plans in these new markets are marginally above the corresponding selling price in US. In the UK for instance, the iPad Wi-Fi models are priced between £429($635) and £699($1035) with 3G-capable models carrying a £100 premium.

Though exchange rate and logistics do play a part in this apparent difference in pricing, it must be noted that buying the iPad on eBay still seems to be a good option for international users.

Here are some of international pricing details for an iPad:

  • Wi-Fi-only iPad:

16GB – €479 Europe, £429 U.K., $549 Canadian, $629 Australian

32GB – €579 Europe, £499 U.K., $649 Canadian, $759 Australian

64GB – €679 Europe, £599 U.K., $749 Canadian, $879 Australian

  • Wi-Fi + 3G iPad

16GB – €579 Europe, £529 U.K., $679 Canadian, $799 Australian

32GB – €679 Europe, £599 U.K., $779 Canadian, $928 Australian

64GB – €779 Europe, £699 U.K., $879 Canadian, $1,049 Australian

Apple has also revealed that the iPad shall be released in more countries like Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore from July of this year. Information on pricing and launch date has not been announced as yet.

Following up with Apple's announcement, Orange UK has also announced its pricing for data plans for iPad 3G customers. The carrier has offered four different 'iPad bundle' plans with validity periods between one day and one month. Users may also opt for a "pay for what you use" plan that charges customers 5 pence for every MB of data downloaded. Here is a look at the different pricing plans on offer.
