Apple Likely To Launch Next Gen iPhone And Announce Release Date For iPhone OS 4.0 On June 7
Apple has announced that the 2010 edition of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) shall be held between June 7 and June 11 at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco.
In a media release published today, Apple's senior vice president of iPhone Software, Scott Forstall said:
“This year’s WWDC offers developers in-depth sessions and hands-on working labs to learn more about iPhone OS 4, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. WWDC provides a unique opportunity for developers to work side-by-side with Apple engineers and interface designers to make their iPhone and iPad apps even better.”
As you can see from the WWDC 2010 banner below, one of the notable aspects about this year's WWDC event is the emphasis on the iPhone OS platform. As John Gruber from Daring Fireball notes, a majority of the developer sessions relate to iPhone OS 4. Also, the Apple Design Awards shall only be presented to iPhone and iPad app developers this year. The focus on the iPhone OS platform makes the launch of iPhone 4G also dubbed iPhone HD during the five day event very likely.
Interest in Apple's upcoming iPhone model has increased considerably in recent times after Gizmodo published details and pictures of the lost next generation iPhone prototype. Despite the widespread media attention that these revelations have received, a lot of questions still remain unanswered about iPhone 4G so the official launch of the device will still be highly anticipated. You may recall that it was speculated that Apple might launch their fourth generation iPhone on June 22, so Apple's announcement should put that to rest.
Apple had also announced the release date of iPhone OS 3.0 during the WWDC 2009 Keynote address, so it is also likely that it will announce the release date for iPhone OS 4.0 at this year's WWDC Keynote address. If we go by that then iPhone OS 4.0 could probably be released on June 16. WWDC 2009 Keynote address on June 8 and iPhone OS 3.0 was released on June 17.
We'll be eagerly waiting for Steve Jobs Keynote address at WWDC 2010 on June 7.
