Popular Facebook Game FarmVille Could Be Coming To The iPhone, iPad
According to Mashable, Zynga, the company behind the popular gaming application is speculated to have recently purchased the domain names farmvilleiphone.com, farmvilleipad.com.
As folks at Supererogatory note, the domain names are not directly registered by Zynga. Instead, they are registered in the name of DNStination Inc., which is incidentally the same company that also manages Farmville.com for Zynga.
Responding to the speculations, a spokesperson for Zynga says:
“Zynga plans to expand to various mobile platforms. We cannot provide additional information at this time.”
With close to 80 million monthly active gamers, FarmVille is easily the most popular social game on Facebook. By releasing an iPhone app version of the game, Zynga could be enabling easier accessibility for users who are on-the-move. Also, iPhone and iPad users are among the more lucrative segments of the gaming population and Zynga are probably hoping to see a significant percentage of virtual good purchases happening from the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Zynga is not new to the iPhone gaming market. The company has developed close to 40 iPhone apps so far and many of Zynga's gaming apps like Mafia Wars and Live Poker are already popular on the App Store. Nevertheless, with FarmVille being one of Zynga's lucrative cash cows, the new app launch will not only get FarmVille fans excited, but could also significantly contribute to the company's bottom-line growth.
