iPad Users Reporting Wi-Fi And Overheating Problems
The iPad has been a success so far with several hundred thousand units reported to have been sold in the first two days of launch.
While the early reviews from customers have been overtly positive, there seem to be two issues that has affected a lot of iPad users.
TechCrunch has reported on the "scores of complaints" that are being posted on the Apple Support site over issues with the iPad's Wi-Fi. According to these complaints, the iPad is occasionally unable to detect Wi-Fi signals even though other devices in the region pick the signals up without any issue. One of the users writes:
"I have also noticed very weak wifi signal in my 16GB iPad. Even when standing in front of the wlan router the signal fluctuates from strong to very weak. The router has very strong signals as every other computer here has full signal strength, even 20-30 meters from the router. So there is definitely a wifi signal issue here with the iPad."
The underlying cause of the issue is yet to be ascertained though speculations are rife that the problem could be because of the iPad's aluminium back casing that could possibly be hindering the signal flow. But knowing Apple we doubt it is design issue and hope it can be fixed with a software update.
Meanwhile, there are also reports of iPads frequently shutting down due to overheating. Users predominantly in the hotter regions of the country are reported to be seeing messages like "iPad needs to cool down before you can use it" when the iPad is used in the open. The operable temperature of the iPad from the Apple website are as follows:
- Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
- Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)
While the operating temperature for the iPad is not very different from that of the iPhone, TheNextWeb notes that a larger device like the iPad is likely to absorb more heat and hence face issues with overheating.
We would like to know from our readers if they have faced any of these issues so far with their iPad. Is there any other issue that you have come to note? Let us know in the comments.
