HP Slate Specs And Pricing Leaked – Can It Be An iPad Killer?
2010 has been touted to be the year of the tablets.
Just a couple of days after Apple unveiled its much anticipated iPad tablet device, HP has released finer details of its own tablet PC – the HP Slate, which the company says would not just enable media consumption like the iPad, but will also enhance the sharing of digital content among users.
In a blog posted yesterday, Phil from HP writes:
"Think about the last time you chatted with friends over Skype on your notebook. Or uploaded a picture from your mobile phone to Facebook or Flickr. How about the last time you viewed images or video from an SD card or a USB device. We know that you expect to be able to capture and share digital content on your mobile devices. And the HP slate device excels there."
However, the more interesting aspects about the upcoming device come from elsewhere. Folks at Engadget have chanced upon a slide from an internal presentation made to HP employees where the HP Slate is pitted against the Apple iPad. Engadget notes that the presentation was given "to cool down some of the iPad hype amongst HP employees". Here is a comparison of the two devices:
As you may have noticed, the HP Slate incorporates a lot of features that have been conspicuously missing on the iPad. This includes support for Adobe Flash, two cameras (one external 3-megapixel and one front-facing VGA for videoconferencing usage), USB port, expandable storage and a better performing 1.6GHz Intel processor. Interestingly, the Slate is priced between $549 and $599.
However, one of the biggest selling points for the iPad against the Slate is its battery longevity, which is nearly double the 5+ hours battery life on HP Slate. iPad also comes bundled with iPhone OS, which gives users the best user experience when it comes to multi-touch and access to thousands of apps available on the App Store.
